Wasatch High Athletes Honored Tuesday

HEBER CITY, Utah-Tuesday, four Wasatch High School athletes were honored at the Cool2Care assembly.

A top male athlete and a top male scholar athlete were honored, as were a top female athlete and a top female scholar athlete.

The top female athlete is multi-sport star Faith Fitzgerald who has a 4.0 GPA with a score of 23 on her ACT.

Fitzgerald was named to the Deseret News’ third team on the All-Class 5-A basketball team as well as the all-Region 8 second team. She has been named as the Region 8 defensive player of the year in back-to-back seasons. She also earned academic all-state and all-region honors.

Fitzgerald also finished in the top 5 in the state in steals. She was also a qualifier in six rodeo events and a member of the athletes’ council at Wasatch High School.

In rodeo, she is also the 11th all-around cowgirl in the state and is a valedictorian.

The top female scholar athlete is Claire Kieffer who has a 3.931 GPA and an ACT score of 29. The star swimmer placed 2nd in the 50-freestyle at the 5-A state swim meet. She was also 3rd in the 100-freestyle at the state meet and was a member of the state-champion 200-freestyle relay. She is on scholarship to attend Dixie State University in St. George.

The top male athlete is star wrestler Zak Kohler. He sports a 3.98 GPA and posted an ACT score of 23. He is a 4-time UHSAA state champion, making him the first Wasps athlete to do so since Cael Sanderson. He is also a 3-time Utah all-star dual selection as well as a 2-time high school All-American and a USA Wrestling Greco All-American. He will attend Air Force on a full-ride scholarship.

Finally, football and soccer star Matthias Dunn is the top male scholar athlete. He has a 4.0 GPA and netted an ACT score of 30. As a kicker, he was named as the Wasatch football special teams MVP and made the first-team all-state squad in Class 5-A as mentioned by the Deseret News.

He was first in Class 5-A in points scored for kickers and first in 5-A in making 11 of his 16 field goal attempts.

He made all 34 of his PAT’s and was first-team academic all-state in football and soccer.

Dunn also served as a team captain on the Wasps’ soccer team and earned valedictorian status.

Dunn will serve a mission for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints and then play for BYU football as a kicker.
