Red Ledges request for an extension on the construction of the northern bypass that would extend traffic around Mill Road to Center Street was met by opposition by councilman Crittenden during Heber City’s Council Meeting. The bypass was originally planned to be completed in 2016, but has been delayed due to the downturn in real estate economy early in development of Red Ledges. Representing Red Ledges, Todd Cates explained the reason for the delay. “As I mentioned here in the past many, many times we’ve made a commitment to be here, we’ve made a commitment to live up to our local agreement and all other agreements we have made. We’ve made a commitment to put in this bypass road, in spite of many people advising us not to, we have been advised by many counselors that we shouldn’t do it. But we have said over and over, we are a part of this community, and we should be here doing the best that we can to make the community better. So I don’t think that a small request for another year to two years to become cash flow positive to put this in, hurts the city in any way shape or form. It definitely saves the city money, because you just have to then maintain and operate and remove snow from that road. It’s not going to hurt anything from a traffic perspective, it’s not going to hurt anything from an economic perspective and we have proven over and over, in spite of the worst recession that anybody can remember, we have lived up to our commitments in the past.”
Additional comments by Councilman Jeff Smith proposed that the city should work with the developers of the New London Property to connect traffic from Highway 40 through a newly proposed road that would provide connection to the East side and take pressure off Center Street. Ultimately the topic was tabled for a future meeting.
