5-A State

TAYLORSVILLE, Utah-Tori Dorius amassed 16 points and 11 rebounds as the Wasatch Wasps upset Timpview 52-47, their longtime nemesis, Tuesday in the first round of the 5-A girls state basketball tournament at Salt Lake Community College. Faith Fitzgerald added 11 points for the Wasps in the win, who next face Box Elder Thursday at 7:30 pm in the state quarterfinals, also at SLCC. Boys Basketball

Region 8

OREM, Utah-Will Harris had 10 points but it wasn’t enough as the Wasatch Wasps fell 45-38 to Timpanogos Tuesday in Region 8 boys basketball action, concluding the regular season. In defeat, the Wasps ended the regular season at 11-13 (4-6 in Region 8 play). Wasatch, by virtue of Provo’s loss to Maple Mountain, was assured the #3 seed for Monday’s 5-A state tournament at Weber State. The Wasps will face Corner Canyon Monday at 9:30 am at the Dee Events Center.
