Wasatch High Wrestling In 1st Place After Day 1 At State

OREM, Utah-Wednesday, at the conclusion of the first day of the 5-A state wrestling championships at Utah Valley University, the Wasatch Wasps found themselves clinging to a slight lead over Box Elder.

The Wasps have amassed 121 points to have the current overall lead while the Bees have 112 points. Skyridge, Wasatch’s Region 8 opponent, is currently third with 92 points, tied for Viewmont for that distinction.

Maple Mountain is currently fifth with 71.5 points.

Wasps who are still in the running for state championship include Tristan Ocana in the 106-pound division, Mitchel Slack and Deklan Kelly in the 120-pound division, River Wardle in the 126-pound division, Sammy Heywood in the 132-pound division, Stockton O’Brien in the 138-pound division, future Air Force wrestler Zak Kohler in the 145-pound division, Brock Lloyd in the 160-pound division and Porter Chamberlain in the 170-pound division.
