SPRINGVILLE, Utah-Saturday, Wasatch High School’s boys and girls’ swimming teams each took the Region 8 title at the region championship meet at Springville High School.
The girls netted 531 points to best the host-Red Devils, who posted 304 points. Maple Mountain was third with 296 points and Skyridge finished fourth with 270 points.
Rounding out the girls’ team results were Provo in fifth place with 194 points and Timpanogos, as the Timberwolves placed sixth with 100 overall points.
As for the boys, Wasatch narrowly edged Springville 455-454, clinching the Region 8 title. Skyridge was third with 400 points, with Provo, Maple Mountain and Timpanogos rounding out the standings.
For the girls, Wasatch’s 200-yard medley A team won the region title. This team, consisting of Trevi Ogilvie, Maddy Moulton, Maddie Sisneros and Claire Kieffer earned the honors in a time of 1:51.06.
Ogilvie also won the girls’ 50-yard freestyle title in a time of 25.63 seconds.
The girls’ 200-yard individual medly title was won by Sisneros in a time of 2:12.24. She also took the 100-yard butterfly title in a time of 58.69 seconds and swam the anchor leg on the region-winning girls’ 400-yard freestyle relay that swam in a time of 3:44.51.
In the boys’ 200-yard individual medley, Wasatch’s Braden Patterson took the region title in a time of 2:02.34. He followed this up by earning the region title in the boys’ 100-yard freestyle in a time of 49.83 seconds.
The Wasps will next compete for a 5-A state title February 8 at the Brigham Young University Swimming Pool at the Richards Building in Provo.
