Assistant USU Equipment Manager Dead At 67

LOGAN, Utah-Per a report from usuathletics.com Friday, Utah State assistant equipment manager Steve Wiley is dead at the age of 67.

Wiley is best known for driving cross country with the Aggies’ football team’s equipment for nearly 20 years, commencing with a trip to New Mexico State October 21, 1995 at Las Cruces, N.M.

He continued in his labors through 2013. In using his own vehicles, Wiley drove roughly 150,000 miles on more than 100 road trips.

The Vietnam veteran died just one day short of his 68th birthday and was awarded a Bronze Star medal for valor.

It was Wiley’s responsibility to hand the American flag to the Aggies player that had the honor of carrying the flag along with the flag of the state of Utah prior to taking the field for the opening kickoff.

Wiley was also known for handing players and staff members their post-game meal.
