Judge sentences woman for trying to hire hit man

SALT LAKE CITY (AP) — A 70-year-old Utah woman was ordered to spend at least three years and up to life in prison for trying to hire a hit man to kill her ex-husband.

Linda Gillman, of Herriman, was found guilty eight months ago of first-degree felony criminal solicitation, and a jury acquitted her of a second count alleging she tried to have the ex-husband’s wife killed.

Nine sentencing dates have passed before a judge Monday handed down the sentence. Other court dates had been canceled or delayed for various reasons.

Gillman also was arraigned Monday in a second alleged plot, wherein prosecutors say she attempted from behind bars to have an attorney and key witness killed.

Gillman pleaded not guilty in the second case to criminal solicitation and two counts of obstructing justice.

Gillman is due back in court Nov. 26.
