Wasatch Football’s Season Ends At Hands of Maple Mountain

HEBER CITY, Utah-Tyler Nelson completed 21 of 32 passes for 289 yards, two touchdowns and an interception and added nine carries for 98 more yards as the Maple Mountain Golden Eagles bested Wasatch 34-31 Tuesday in the 5-A football play-in game at Wright-Tree Stadium.

The Golden Eagles were also led by Braden Worthington (4 rec, 85 yards) and Kyson Hall (4 rec, 67 yards, TD) while Stevie De Gala had the game-clinching inteception after a 1-yard touchdown run by tailback Jesse Harness gave Maple Mountain a 34-31 lead in the closing seconds.

Wasatch was resilient in defeat, using a 14-3 run in the 3rd Quarter to take a 31-21 lead on a 2-yard touchdown run by Zak Thacker (20 car, 97 yards, TD).

Nevertheless, a Nelson touchdown pass to Cole Christensen, followed by Harness’ touchdown run, gave the Golden Eagles all they needed for the victory.

Parker Quinton (17 of 29, 243 yards, 3 TD’s/INT) was solid in defeat, tossing an 80-yard touchdown pass to Kaden Smith (4 rec, 109 yards, 2 TD’s) and a 28-yard scoring strike to Brydger Purdy (3 rec, 34 yards, TD).

Jaxon LaPray (3 rec, 51 yards) was also solid for the Wasps, while stellar kicker Matthias Dunn nailed a 48-yard field goal as well for Wasatch.

Defensively, Tyler Karl had a key interception, setting up Dunn’s field goal, and had a team-high 9.5 tackles for the Wasps.

The Wasps’ volleyball team is still competing, but otherwise, the scene has shifted to winter sports.
