Fired Dixie State Professors Reinstated

ST. GEORGE, Utah-Per a Friday report in the St. George Spectrum, two Dixie State University music professors have been reinstated following terminations that garnered both local and national attention.

Tenured assistant professor of music Glenn Webb and professor of music, Ken Peterson, each received reinstatement notices from the commissioner of the Utah System of Higher Education.

These reinstatement notices were given within just more than a week of each other as Peterson’s came July 10 and Webb’s arrived July 19.

In early March, these professors were fired on grounds, per the university, amounted to three violation policies apiece.

The men appealed, which caused the process to involve separate faculty review boards.

These boards were told to either reinstate the professors or make their terminations permanent.

A Utah System of Higher Education representative made the final call, following the recommendations that the panels gave.

This decision, under normal circumstances, would be made by the university president but president Richard “Biff” Williams recused himself.

Therefore, the Utah Attorney General’s office nominated someone to fill this role.

Webb stated he feels vindicated by this and plans to go back to his regularly scheduled courses in jazz and percussion.

Upon Peterson’s reinstatement, Michael Lacourse, the university’s provost and vice president of academic affairs, sent an email to faculty and staff, notifying them of the USHE’s decision.
