CEDAR CITY, Utah-Thursday, Southern Utah University athletic director Debbie Corum announced Kortny Hall had been promoted as the Thunderbirds’ softball coach.
Hall was named as the program’s assistant coach prior to the 2018 season and was responsible for the development of pitchers and catchers in the program.
She also called pitches and created and implemented scouting reports.
Hall came to Cedar City from Southern Virginia University and she was the head coach of the Division III Knights’ program for three years.
During her tenure at SVU, the Knights improved in all major statistical categories and dropped their overall ERA by three whole runs.
Hall has also been a head coach at the high school level, coaching the Liberty High Lions of Peoria, Ariz. from 2007-2013.
As the head coach at Liberty, she led the Lions to three Arizona State Championship tournaments and was the West Valley (Phoenix area) coach of the year in 2010 and 2011 and nominated as Big School Coach of the Year in 2011.
Hall played for SUU in 2005 and 2006, helping the Thunderbirds to successive Mid-Continent Conference regular season championships and their first ever NCAA Super Regional appearance in 2006.
In 2006, Hall also was a member of the NCAA Regional All-Tournament team and was named to the NCAA Division I All-West Region team and earned All-American status from ESPN Magazine for her work in the classroom.
In SUU program history, Hall is 11th in career batting average (.334) and 14th in career home runs with 11.
As a freshman and sophomore, Hall played for the Phoenix College Bears, helping the squad to a 2004 NJCAA national championship.
Hall earned her bachelor’s degree in physical education/health with an emphasis in coaching/teaching in 2007 from SUU and also earned her master’s from the institution in 2010 in human performance and sports conditioning.
