NORTHBROOK, Ill.-Tuesday, Northbrook, Ill.-based Allstate Insurance Company and the American Football Coaches Association announced the nomination of BYU senior quarterback Tanner Mangum to the 2018 Allstate Good Works Team.
The Allstate AFCA Good Works Team has been among the most prestigious honors in college football for more than 25 years.
Student-athletes nominated for this award not only seek to enhance their communities but also demonstrate the fortitude to overcome adversity.
Mangum is one of 169 nominees for this honor and has been previously lauded as an advocate for mental health awareness.
There are two other Utah collegians considered for this award, University of Utah senior linebacker Chase Hansen and Utah State junior defensive end Jacoby Wildman.
The Eagle, Idaho native has advocated for mental health awareness in both television and digital interviews during his collegiate career.
Former BYU signal-caller Riley Nelson was a part of this team in the 2010 season while other BYU players to be nominated include luminaries such as Fred Warner and Taysom Hill.
This list of nominees will be pared down to 22 (consisting of NCAA Division I FBS and FCS football, Division II football, Division III football and the NAIA) with this announcement coming in September.
After the announcement of the final team members, college football fans can visit espn.com or the Allstate AFCA Good Works Team Web site and vote for their favorite players.
Additionally, during the voting process, all nominees will need to remain actively involved with a charitable organization or service group while maintaining their usual academic standard.
