Dollar Ridge Fire: Day 7

DUCHESNE COUNTY, Utah-Saturday, as the Dollar Ridge fire continues, authorities now have a better idea of how it has progressed.

Per Alex Cabrero of KSL News Radio in Salt Lake City, the blaze is currently at 47,683 acres and per a map of the coverage area, there are definitive points as to where the fire is the strongest at this point in its progression.

As of 1:03 pm MDT, the fire was 4 percent contained, per a report from the Uinta-Wasatch-Cache National Forest and another meeting at Duchesne High School concerning the blaze is slated for Monday evening at 7:00 pm MDT.

The National Weather Service of Salt Lake City also reports a little rain reached the ground near the fire, roughly 0.13 inches as of 2:05 pm MDT.

As of 5:24 pm MDT, the Uinta-Wasatch-Cache National Forest reports the Heber-Kamas Ranger District has closed the road on the east side of Soldier Creek to all pedestrian, equestrian, bicycle and motorized vehicle use. Forest Service road #090 is closed from U.S. Highway 40 Southwest to the intersection with Forest Service road #109 for public safety because of the fire.

A public information officer has told Sean Moody of KSL-TV in Salt Lake City that drivers need to slow down along U.S. Highway 40 because firefighters are working along the road and drivers are reportedly driving too swiftly in the area for their safety.

Red Cross of Utah and Nevada reports that evacuations will be lifted Sunday, including Zone D-2 at 9:00 am MDT and Zone D-4 at 11:00 am MDT. More information is available at duchesne.utah.gov

As of 7:40 pm MDT, the Dollar Ridge Fire was 30 percent contained and, per Moody, the Duchesne County Sheriff’s Office is allowing certain evacuees to return to their homes Sunday.
