Small-Town Fourth in Midway

MIDWAY, Utah-Friday, the Small-Town Fourth (of July) celebration starts in Midway, boasting a spectacular holiday event in Heber Valley.

The fun starts Friday June 29 with the Wasatch Plein Air Paradise awards and a reception in the Midway Town Hall from 6:00-9:00 pm.

This is also the first night of Roald Dahl’s Willy Wonka the Musical at the High Valley Arts Outdoor Theater, located at 250 S. 400 East in Midway.

The show starts at 8:15 pm but the live music pre-show for Willy Wonka starts at 7:30 pm and the audience is invited to bring a picnic supper.

Tickets for the show are at Lee’s Market, at the door, or on line at highvalleyarts.org.

The Willy Wonka musical recurs through July 14, with the exception of Sundays and Tuesday July 10.

June 30, from 10:00 am-6:00 pm, there will be an MAA Wasatch Plein Air Art Exhibit and sale.

Sunday July 1, at sunrise, you can do the paint out at Wasatch State Park. From 1:00-4:00 pm, the paintings will be on display at the Wasatch State Park Visitors’ Center.

Monday July 2 from 9:00 am-1:00 pm, there will be a Heber City Paint Out and from 10:00 am-6:00 pm there will be an MAA Wasatch Plein Air Art Exhibit and Sale as well as a Mountain Valley photographers’ display: “Stunning Wasatch Landscapes,” at the community center. At 3:00 pm, the winners of the Heber City paint out will be announced.

Tuesday July 3, there will be a Midway City paint out from 9:00 am-1:00 pm and at 3:00 pm, the winners will be announced for this paint out. Also, from 10:00 am-7:00 pm, the Stunning Wasatch Landscapes display will recur, as will the Wasatch Plein Air Art Exhibit and Sale.

On the 4th of July, there will be a 7:00 am flag-raising ceremony at the Midway Town Square, featuring KSL News’ Dave McCann. Tom and Linda Whitaker will be honored with the citizens’ presentation and there will be an appearance by the Swiss Miss Royalty, the Swiss Chorus, Swiss Bells and the Midway String Quartet.

From 8:00-10:00 am, there will be a pancake breakfast at the Town Square. From 9:00 am-3:00 pm, the Stunning Wasatch Landscapes display recurs as does the Wasatch Plein Air Art Exhibit and Sale.

From 8:30-10:30 am, there will be a Midway Art Associations’ Quick Draw painting around  the town hall and community center.

At 10:00 am, guests can meet at the gazebo on the town square for the heritage home tours.

From 11:00 am-2:00 pm, Tom Whitaker’s Cowboy Museum will be open at 510 N. River Road, Midway. Admission is free.

At 11:00 am, John Besendorfer will relate humorous anecdotes concerning “Midway’s Beginnings” featuring original photographs and artifacts at the Midway Community Center.

At 2:00 pm, there will be more heritage home tours and again, they will commence at the gazebo on the town square.

At 3:00 pm, there will be a Jerry Springer slide show featuring the history of Midway Town Hall with original photographs at the community center.

At 10:00 pm, there will be fireworks over Memorial Hill, sponsored by Midway Boosters, concluding the festivities.
