Avalanche Conditions Expected With Winter Storm

Heavy snowfall and strong winds are expected to rapidly increase avalanche danger across Utah, beginning Feb. 17 and continuing through the week. According to a press release from the Utah Avalanche Center, “forecasters expect dangerous and complex avalanche conditions to develop on many slopes, with large natural and human-triggered avalanches likely.” It shared, “the incoming storm will overload widespread fragile layers of weak, faceted snow…this setup is well known from producing dangerous, unpredictable avalanches.” The storm is expected to impact northern, central and southwestern Utah.
