IRVING, Texas-Monday, BYU men’s basketball senior guard Richie Saunders was named to the Big 12 starting five for his performances in the Cougars’ losses to Arizona and Kansas last week.
In losses to the Wildcats and Jayhawks, Saunders averaged 25.5 points and 9.5 rebounds and shot 60 percent from the floor.
Saunders was joined in this group by
Arizona freshman/guard Brayden Burries (also the Newcomer and Player of the Week; 18 points, 6 rebounds and 4 assists per game in wins over BYU and Arizona State)
UCF senior guard Themus Fulks (16.5 points, 6.5 assists per game in the Knights’ wins over Arizona State and Oklahoma State last week)
Iowa State senior guard Tamin Lipsey (15 points, 7 assists per game last week in the Cyclones’ wins over Colorado and Kansas State)
Kansas freshman forward Bryson Tiller (16.5 points per game in the Jayhawks’ wins over Kansas State and BYU last week).
Saunders and his BYU teammates return to action Wednesday at Stillwater, Okla. as the Cougars visit Oklahoma State.
