(Orem, UT) — The head of the largest university in Utah is leaving her position at the end of the year. Astrid Tuminez says her nearly seven years running Utah Valley University have been rewarding, but she’s ready for her next chapter. About a year ago, she lost her husband when he suffered a pulmonary embolism while hiking a mountain in Ecuador. And of course, the September assassination of Charlie Kirk brought more tragedy. The 61-year-old president was born into poverty in the Philippines but later earned degrees from BYU, Harvard and MIT. She’s a scholar on Russia and the Soviet Union who also worked as a Microsoft executive.
