Zion National Park Fatal Rappelling Accident

(Zion National Park, UT) — A 58-year-old man is dead after a rappelling accident at Zion National Park over the weekend. National Park Service law enforcement responded to the scene of a canyoneering accident involving a visitor at the last rappel Sunday afternoon and the man was pronounced dead at the scene. Due to the remote location, the man was transported by helicopter to the Washington County Medical Examiner and the Department of the Interior has confirmed the companion who was with the canyoneer was safely rescued. The incident remains under investigation.
