State Lawmakers Proposing Bill Limit

(Salt Lake City, UT) — One Utah state representative is proposing a limit to how many bills each state legislator can file in a 45-day session. Representative Clint Okerlund says the record number of bills causes high costs, rushed debate, and low-priority “message” legislation. Okerlund proposes a limit of six bills per House member and nine per senator. Exceptions apply to committee, budget, and repeal bills. The bill is expected in the 2026 legislative session.
