OREM, Utah (uvu.edu)-Per numerous sources, including The Daily Herald, Salt Lake Tribune and Utah Valley University’s Twitter account, UVU received a new president Friday.
Friday, Astrid Tuminez was selected by the Utah System of Higher Education’s Board of Regents to be the seventh president in the Orem-based university’s history.
Tuminez is also the first female president in school history and replaces the outgoing Matthew Holland who will preside over a Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints mission in North Carolina this July.
Tuminez is currently Microsoft’s regional director for corporate, external and legal affairs in southeast Asia.
Tuminez, a Filipino national, first came to Utah at the age of 18 to study at Brigham Young University in Provo.
During a public interview with the UVU community Thursday, Tuminez stated she wasn’t looking for a job and was intersted in this position because of her connections to Utah.
Tuminez stated a desire to look at how talent can be developed at the university and hopes for both the community and university to thrive in tandem.
