BYU Football Receives Big 12 Honors Monday

Monday, following their 33-27 double overtime win at Arizona Saturday, the No. 15 BYU Cougars received a pair of honors from the Big 12.

Junior tailback LJ Martin was named as the Big 12 Offensive Player of the Week. The native of El Paso, Texas netted a career-high 162 yards on 25 rushes (6.5 yards per carry) in the Cougars’ win over the Wildcats.

Martin, who added nine grabs for 77 yards against Arizona, has run for 652 yards (seventh nationally) and is averaging 108.7 yards per game on the ground (sixth nationally).

Additionally, BYU freshman quarterback Bear Bachmeier has been named as the Big 12 freshman of the week.

The native of Murrieta, Calif. threw for 172 yards and a score, while adding 89 rushing yards and two more touchdowns in the win.

Martin, Bachmeier and their BYU teammates return to action Saturday evening at home against  No. 23 Utah in the latest installment of the Holy War at LaVell Edwards Stadium.
