AUGUSTA, Ga.-Monday, BYU redshirt junior punter Sam Vander Haar and Utah sophomore punter Orion Phillips were selected as Ray’s 8 honorees by the Augusta Sports Council and the Ray Guy Award.
Vander Haar, a Pittsburgh transfer out of Melbourne, Australia averaged 43.7 yards per punt in the No. 25 Cougars’ 34-13 win over East Carolina last Saturday. Phillips, a sophomore out of Sandringham, Australia, averaged 44.7 yards per kick on seven punts in the Utes’ 34-10 loss to Texas Tech Saturday.
Vander Haar has punted eight times this season, averaging 44.1 yards per kick. Phillips has posted 12 punts for an average of 43.8 yards per kick.
