CEDAR CITY, Utah-Despite a 52-49 loss to nationally-ranked Northern Arizona Saturday evening at Eccles Coliseum, a pair of Southern Utah football standouts received weekly honors.
Thunderbirds sophomore tailback Joshua Dye, a transfer from FBS UTEP, ran for 171 yards and four touchdowns in the loss to the Lumberjacks, earning honorable mention from STATS Perform for their FCS National Player of the Week. The native of Gilbert, Ariz. has run for 383 yards and six scores this season for SUU.
Additionally, freshman Ran Sawyer, a former Dixie High School star out of St. George, received United Athletic Conference Freshman of the Week honors against NAU. Sawyer returned a kickoff 95 yards for a score Saturday to receive this distinction.
Dye, Sawyer, and their SUU teammates return to action Saturday at UC Davis. Next season, the Aggies and Thunderbirds will be conference foes in the Big Sky Conference but this is a non-conference game this season.
