(Salt Lake City, UT) — Governor Spencer Cox says the death penalty is “appropriate” if Ryan Michael Bate is found guilty of killing two Tremonton police officers. Cox spoke to reporters yesterday during his monthly news conference. He says he understands that people “make mistakes” but added they still “don’t shoot cops in cold blood.” The governor did reiterate he doesn’t know the specific details about the case. He also praised the fallen officers, saying they “truly embodied the very best of public servants.”
