CEDAR CITY, Utah-Tuesday, Southern Utah University announced its 2025 athletics Hall of Fame class.
It is as follows:
men’s basketball head coach Bill Evans (1992-2007). He led the Thunderbirds to a record of 208-223 (.483) and was the American West Conference Coach of the Year (1995). He led the Thunderbirds to their only NCAA Tournament appearance to-date in 2001, wherein No. 15 SUU narrowly lost to No. 2 Boston College 68-65 in the first round.
women’s track and field star Diana Medina Mitchell (2008-2012)
women’s volleyball standout Analaine Mailoto (2009-2012)
sports communication administrator Neil Gardner (1991-2014) posthumously. Gardner died in 2022 and played an instrumental role in serving the athletic department during its rise to Division I in the 1988-89 academic year.
men’s track and field star Sherman Cooper (1909-1912, Legacy inductee)
football and baseball star John Borla (1976-1979). Borla holds the school record for most interceptions in a season (8, 1977) and a career (12; 1977-78).
men’s cross country/track and field star Hayden Hawks (2010-2016). The 2015 Big Sky Conference men’s champion
women’s basketball standout Hailey Mandelko Ferry (2011-2015)
The 1981 softball team. The Thunderbirds went 31-8 and won the RMAC Championship, ultimately competing in the NAIA National Championship Tournament as-then Southern Utah State College.
The Hall of Fame class will formally be announced Friday September 13 as part of Homecoming Week at Eccles Coliseum.
September 14, the Thunderbirds host regional rival Northern Arizona for the annual Homecoming game.
