Brian Santiago Named As BYU Athletic Director Tuesday

PROVO, Utah-Tuesday, following a national search, Brian Santiago was named as the new director of athletics at Brigham Young University.

Santiago’s appointment will formally be announced Wednesday at 10:00 am MDT on BYUTV by BYU president C. Shane Rees at a press conference for media.

Santiago is a graduate of Provo High School and played college basketball at Utah Valley and Fresno State (1988-89; 1991-1992 at UVU, then known as UVSC,  and 1992-1994 at Fresno State).

During his time as a collegian for the Wolverines, Santiago served a mission for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in the Dominican Republic.

Santiago first came to BYU in 1997, serving as an assistant on the Cougars’ men’s basketball coaching staff.

Later, he moved into athletic administration, serving as an assistant and associate athletic director. In 2008, retired BYU athletic director Tom Holmoe appointed Santiago as a senior associate athletic director.

In 2017, Santiago became the Cougars’ deputy athletic director.

He and his wife, Kimberly, are the parents of four children.
