5A State Second Round Playoffs

HEBER CITY, Utah-Kate Miller’s 15 points led the way and the No. 2 Wasatch Wasps downed No. 15 Maple Mountain 61-57 Thursday in the second round of the 5A state playoffs. Leah Bailey’s game-high 21 points led the Golden Eagles in the loss. The Wasps next face No. 7 Timpview Tuesday at 5:50 pm in the 5A state quarterfinals at the Huntsman Center on the campus of the University of Utah.

PROVO, Utah-Lina Ballin netted 16 points and the No. 7 Timpview Thunderbirds waxed No. 10 West Jordan 47-32 Thursday in the second round of the 5A state playoffs.

CLEARFIELD, Utah-Alexis Branch posted 19 points and the No. 22 Spanish Fork Dons upset No. 6 Clearfield 66-58 in the second round of the 5A state playoffs Thursday. Izzy Wyaskett led the Falcons in defeat with 25 points. Spanish Fork next visits No. 3 Bountiful Tuesday at 5:10 pm in the 5A state quarterfinals at the Huntsman Center.

SALEM, Utah-Chenielle Nye recorded 22 points and the No. 4 Salem Hills Skyhawks waxed No. 13 Springville 51-42 Thursday in the second round of the 5A state playoffs. Salem Hills next faces No. 5 Cedar Valley Tuesday at 9:10 pm in the state quarterfinals at the Huntsman Center.

EAGLE MOUNTAIN, Utah-Ellie Larson netted 17 points and the No. 5 Cedar Valley Aviators soared past No. 12 Alta 58-50 in the second round of the 5A state playoffs Thursday. Quincy Kegel’s game-high 22 points led the Hawks in defeat.

SALT LAKE CITY-Kylee Falatea posted 20 points and the No. 1 West Panthers hammered No. 16 Taylorsville 70-22 Thursday in the second round of the 5A state playoffs. Tessa Duke led the Warriors in the loss with 10 points. The Panthers next face No. 8 Brighton Tuesday at 7:30 pm in the state quarterfinals at the Huntsman Center.

COTTONWOOD HEIGHTS, Utah-Sophie Nielsen stepped up with 25 points and the No. 8 Brighton Bengals bested No. 9 Viewmont 61-51 in the second round of the 5A state playoffs Thursday. Mary Carr led the Vikings in the loss with 13 points.

BOUNTIFUL, Utah-Taylor Harvey netted 19 points and the No. 3 Bountiful RedHawks routed No. 14 Olympus 74-25 Thursday in the second round of the 5A state playoffs. Joss Baker led the Titans with 17 points in defeat.
