COTTONWOOD HEIGHTS, Utah-Mason Haertel ran for a pair of scores and the No. 3 Brighton Bengals routed No. 19 Wasatch 26-0 in the 2nd round of the 5A state playoffs Friday. Sam Storrs threw a 12-yard touchdown pass to Slade Taylor and Beau La Fleur ran 8 yards for another score in the win for the Bengals Brighton next hosts No. 6 Olympus Friday in the 5A state quarterfinals.
HOLLADAY, Utah-Max Rice threw four touchdown passes and the No. 6 Olympus Titans overpowered No. 11 Woods Cross 49-21 in the 2nd round of the 5A state playoffs Friday. Jack Evans and Nate Heugly also ran for scores in victory for the Titans. Viliami Tapa’atoutai ran for two scores in defeat for the Wildcats.
BOUNTIFUL, Utah-Siaki Fekitoa ran for three scores and the No. 2 Bountiful RedHawks pounded No. 18 Alta 42-14 in the 2nd round of the 5A state playoffs Friday. Emerson Geilman threw a touchdown pass and ran for two more scores in the win for Bountiful. Tucker Brown threw two touchdown passes to Nolan Lohness in the loss for the Hawks. Bountiful next hosts No. 7 Maple Mountain Friday at 6:00 pm in the 5A state quarterfinals.
SPANISH FORK, Utah-Eli Mauga, Max Stonebreaker and Mason Jensen each ran for scores and the No. 7 Maple Mountain Golden Eagles edged No. 10 Northridge 24-21 Friday in the 2nd round of the 5A state playoffs. Fernando Banuelos added a 36-yard field goal in victory for Maple Mountain. Tre Nye threw a touchdown pass and ran for another score in the loss for the Knights. Andrew Ortiz added a 12-yard touchdown run in defeat for Northridge.
PROVO, Utah-Jaron Pula, Dennis Tua’one, Tipa Galea’i, Soakai Aston and Aisa Galea’i each ran for scores and the No. 4 Timpview Thunderbirds pounded No. 13 Springville 59-24 Friday in the 2nd round of the 5A state playoffs. Zedekiah Anahu-Ambrosio and Braxton Wilkerson each caught touchdown passes in the win for Timpview and Luke Thornock added a 20-yard field goal in victory for the Thunderbirds. Easton Leavitt threw a 79-yard touchdown pass to Jack Pickering and Reid Deede also caught a touchdown pass in the loss for the Red Devils. Jonathon Zafra added a 27-yard field goal in defeat for Springville. Timpview next hosts No. 5 Orem Friday at 6:00 pm in the state quarterfinals.
OREM, Utah-Tayden Ka’awa threw three touchdown passes and Zach Graver ran for two more scores as the No. 5 Orem Tigers outlasted No. 12 West 35-27 Friday in the 2nd round of the 5A state playoffs. Izaiah Holley threw a touchdown pass and ran for two more scores in defeat for the Panthers. Lote Sotele ran 30 yards for a score additionally in the loss for West.
BOUNTIFUL, Utah-Titan Longson threw a 28-yard touchdown pass to Jayson Dunroe and the No. 8 Viewmont Vikings advanced to the state quarterfinals for the first time since 1973 with a 10-7 win over No. 9 East in the 2nd round of the 5A state playoffs Friday. John Amone ran 4 yards for a score in defeat for the Leopards. Viewmont next visits No. 1 Roy Friday at 6:00 pm in the state quarterfinals.
ROY, Utah-Dru Gardner threw two touchdown passes and the No. 1 Roy Royals overpowered No. 17 Granger 45-28 Friday in the 2nd round of the 5A state playoffs. Logan Cella ran for three more scores in victory for the Royals. Sunia Fifita ran for two scores in defeat for the Lancers.
