(Salt Lake City, UT) — The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints is publicly reasserting its position on political neutrality, civil discourse and abortion. The church released a statement yesterday in response to recent inquiries about its stance on specific issues of importance for many this election season. Church officials emphasized there is a long-standing policy of “institutional neutrality regarding political parties and candidates.” The statement also encourages civic awareness and participation and reinforces that “church members may appropriately choose to participate in efforts to protect life and to preserve religious liberty.”
