Utah Poison Control Reports Spike In Weight-Loss Drug Calls

(Salt Lake City, UT) — Hundreds of people are calling poison control because of mistakes they’ve made with their weight-loss drugs. Utah’s Poison Control Hotline says it’s seen a 600-percent increase in the number of people calling about an Ozempic or Wegovy overdose. The overdoses aren’t deadly, but they do cause people to throw-up or have diarrhea. Poison Control says since 2020, they’ve gotten about 300 calls from people who’ve taken the wrong dose, 100 of those calls have come so far this year. Poison Control managers say people need to talk to their doctor or pharmacist, and make sure that they are taking only the dose that they’ve been prescribed.
