ST. GEORGE, Utah-Per a Thursday announcement, Utah Tech University officially obtained Division I status.
June 28, the NCAA Division I Board of Directors officially approved the Trailblazers’ move to complete Division I status which became official August 1.
This means Utah Tech is now eligible to participate in NCAA championships in each of the 15 sports it competes in at the intercollegiate level.
Utah Tech formally announced its move to the Western Athletic Conference January 11, 2019.
The university took its first step to Division I status July 1, 2020.
The Trailblazers claimed one conference championship during the transition period, softball in 2023.
The football team will play its first game as an official Division I school August 31 by hosting Montana State of the Big Sky Conference.
