Weber State Men’s Basketball Hires New Assistant Coach Friday

OGDEN, Utah-Friday, Weber State men’s basketball head coach Eric Duft added longtime assistant coach Leonard Perry to the Wildcats’ staff.

Perry comes to Weber State from Pacific, where he served as the Tigers’ head coach for the past three seasons. Perry went 29-65 (.309) as the head coach at Pacific.

Perry also spent five seasons as the head coach at Idaho, his alma mater. Perry posted a 48-97 record for the Vandals from 2001-2006.

Perry starred at McLennan CC (Texas) before coming to Idaho from 1989-91. He averaged 7 points and 2.8 rebounds per game during his playing career for the Vandals.

Perry started his coaching career at Idaho as an assistant under longtime Division I men’s basketball head coach Larry Eustachy, later joining Eustachy at Utah State from 1995-1998.

Perry again followed Eustachy to Iowa State, serving as a Cyclones assistant from 1998-2001.

Perry gained some NBA coaching experience in 2006, serving as an assistant for the Indiana Pacers while later becoming a Pacers scout from 2008-2011.

Perry rejoined Eustachy at Southern Mississippi in the 2011-12 season and served as an associated head coach at Colorado State from 2012-2016.

Perry is a native of Dallas and he and his wife, Christiana, have five children.
