5A First Round

HEBER CITY, Utah-Sam Lind led the way with 20 points and the No. 13 Wasatch Wasps overpowered No. 20 Box Elder 61-44 Tuesday in the first round of the 5A boys basketball playoffs at The Nest. Trevor Wilkinson and Max Isaacson had 13 points apiece in the loss for the Bees. The Wasps advance to play No. 4 Timpview Wednesday at 7:00 pm in the second round of the state playoffs  playoffs. This game will be on 94.5 The Peak, hebervalleyradio.com and teamhive.live with Ty&Ty calling all the action. This win helped the Wasps break an 11-year postseason win drought in boys basketball as Wasatch last defeated Desert Hills in 2013 in the 3A state tournament.

SPANISH FORK, Utah-Cache Tuia posted 14 points and the No. 19 Viewmont Vikings edged No. 14 Maple Mountain 66-63 in the first round of the 5A boys basketball playoffs Tuesday. Brogan Miles led the Golden Eagles in defeat with 16 points. Viewmont next visits No. 3 Highland Wednesday at 7:00 pm in the second round of the state playoffs.

SALT LAKE CITY-Bronson Belnap recorded 19 points and the No. 17 Roy Royals bested No. 16 East 67-60 Tuesday in the first round of the 5A boys basketball playoffs. Sawyer Sutton’s game-high 29 points led the Leopards in the loss. The Royals next visit No. 1 Alta Wednesday at 7:00 pm in the second round of the state playoffs.

DRAPER, Utah-Luke Meyer led the way with 12 points and the No. 9 Juan Diego Soaring Eagle edged No. 24 Clearfield 52-51 in the first round of the 5A boys basketball playoffs Tuesday. Davis Woll’s game-high 14 points led the Falcons in the loss. Juan Diego next visits No. 8 Brighton in the second round of the state playoffs Wednesday at 7:00 pm.

LAYTON, Utah-Chase DeGraffenried amassed 28 points and the No. 18 Salem Hills Skyhawks got past No. 15 Northridge 63-58 Tuesday in the first round of the 5A boys basketball playoffs. Bently Whitear had 20 points in the loss for the Knights. Salem Hills next visits No. 2 Olympus Wednesday at 7:00 pm in the second round of the state playoffs.

EAGLE MOUNTAIN, Utah-Heath Christensen stepped up with 20 points and the No. 11 Cedar Valley Aviators edged No. 22 Bonneville 53-52 in the first round of the 5A boys basketball playoffs Tuesday. Zac Combe had 16 points for the Lakers in the loss. Cedar Valley next visits No. 6 Bountiful in the second round of the state playoffs Wednesday at 7:00 pm.

WEST JORDAN, Utah-Alex Szymanski and Colton Blackham had 14 points apiece and the No. 12 West Jordan Jaguars bested No. 21 Hunter 59-53 Tuesday in the first round of the 5A boys basketball playoffs. Dominick Phannolath’s game-high 24 points led the Wolverines in defeat. West Jordan next visits No. 5 Orem Wednesday at 7:00 pm in the second round of the state playoffs.

SALT LAKE CITY-Itay Lustgarten had 19 points and the No. 10 Skyline Eagles edged No. 23 Woods Cross 57-56 in the first round of the 5A boys basketball playoffs Tuesday. Hunter Jackson’s 23 points led the Wildcats in the loss. The Eagles next visit No. 7 Springville in the second round of the state playoffs Wednesday at 7:00 pm.

5A First Round

WEST JORDAN, Utah-Gracyn Cook netted 21 points and the No. 18 Spanish Fork Dons upset No. 15 West Jordan 57-44 Tuesday in the first round of the 5A girls baksetball playoffs. Giselle Muffett’s game-high 22 points led the Jaguars in defeat. The Dons next visit No. 2 Wasatch at the Nest Thursday at 7:00 pm in the second round of the playoffs.

HOLLADAY, Utah-Keily Trabanino posted 13 points and 7 steals and the No. 12 Olympus Titans edged No. 21  Hunter 40-37 in the first round of the 5A girls basketball playoffs Tuesday. Kalysa Ng had 15 points for the Wolverines in defeat. Olympus next visits No. 5 Alta Thursday at 7:00 pm in the second round of the 5A state playoffs.

CLEARFIELD, Utah-Xiyah Yarbrough led the way with 20 points and the No. 9 Clearfield Falcons routed No. 24 Skyline 58-42 Tuesday in the first round of the 5A girls basketball playoffs. Cami Groberg’s 14 points led the Eagles in defeat. Clearfield next visits No. 8 Brighton Thursday at 7:00 pm in the second round of the 5A state playoffs.

LAYTON, Utah-Kaylee Hess netted 14 points and the No. 13 Northridge Knights bested No. 20 Kearns 46-34 in the first round of the 5A girls basketball playoffs Tuesday. Kylee Glade led the Cougars in the loss with 13 points. The Knights next visit No. 4 Box Elder in the second round of the 5A state playoffs Thursday at 7:00 pm.

SALEM, Utah-The No. 10 Salem Hills Skyhawks pounded No. 23 East 78-51 Tuesday in the first round of the 5A girls basketball playoffs. The Skyhawks next visit No. 7 West Thursday at 7:00 pm in the second round of the 5A state playoffs.

TAYLORSVILLE, Utah-Ili Crockett stepped up with 13 points and the No. 19 Woods Cross Wildcats upset No. 14 Taylorsville 44-40 in the first round of the 5A girls basketball playoffs Tueseday. Jenna Sterzer’s game-high 17 points led the Warriors in the loss.  The Wildcats next visit No. 3 Timpview Thursday at 7:00 pm in the second round of the state playoffs.

MAGNA, Utah-Brynlee Johnson and Sami Del Lamas had 13 points apiece and the No. 22 Springville Red Devils downed No. 11 Cyprus 56-53 Tuesday in the first round of the 5A girls basketball playoffs. Amelia Echternkamp’s game-high 21 points led the Pirates in defeat. Springville next visits No. 6 Maple Mountain in the second round of the state playoffs Thursday at 7:00 pm.

EAGLE MOUNTAIN, Utah-Kristina Gunnell led the way with 19 points and the No. 17 Viewmont Vikings bested No. 16 Cedar Valley 47-35 in the first round of the 5A girls basketball playoffs Tuesday. The Vikings next visit their cross-town rival, No. 1 Bountiful, Thursday at 7:00 pm in the second round of the state playoffs.
