Teacher Liability Threatened By Proposed Bill

(Salt Lake City, UT) — A newly proposed state bill would hold teachers liable if they keep banned books available to their students. If found guilty, teachers would be charged with a misdemeanor if they keep materials specifically deemed “objectively sensitive” in their classrooms. The GOP backed bill would result in schools losing their governmental immunity that keeps such entities from being sued for something that was part of their governmental duties. The proposed measure would also stop local school boards from cutting people off at meetings who are reading from books or titles that are allowed in schools.
