LITTLE ROCK, Ark.-Tuesday, BYU, the University of Utah and Utah State University each achieved representatives nominated for the Broyles Award. This award, which features 57 nominees from across NCAA FCS football, is annually bestowed upon the top assistant coach at this level of college football.
BYU is represented by cornerbacks coach Jernaro Gilford. Utah is represented by defensive coordinator Morgan Scalley and Utah State by co-offensive coordinator/receivers coach Kyle Cefalo.
Gilford, a former BYU cornerback (1999-2003), has also coached at Southern Utah and his alma matter, Whittier (Calif.).
Scalley’s Utes defense averages 3 sacks per game, ranking them 14th nationally in that statistic.
Cefalo has coached at Utah State since 2021 and has previously coached at Arkansas State, Maryland and Boise State.
