HEBER CITY, Utah-The No. 17 Cedar Valley Aviators outlasted No. 16 Wasatch 3-2 Tuesday in the first round of the 5A state playoffs at The Nest. The Aviators got past the Wasps 25-23, 27-25, 17-25, 25-27, 15-8 to pull off the upset. The Aviators next face No. 1 Maple Mountain Thursday at 9:00 am in the second round of the state playoffs at Utah Valley University.
BOUNTIFUL, Utah-The No. 9 Viewmont Vikings dismantled No. 24 Olympus 3-1 in the first round of the 5A state playoffs Tuesday at Viewmont High School. The Vikings overpowered the Titans 25-16, 26-28, 25-13, 25-15 to get the win. The Vikings next face No. 8 Brighton Thursday at 9:00 am at Utah Valley University in the second round of the state playoffs.
BRIGHAM CITY, Utah-The No. 20 Springville Red Devils upset No. 13 Box Elder 3-2 Tuesday in the first round of the 5A state playoffs at Box Elder High School. The Red Devils next draw No. 4 Woods Cross in the second round of the state playoffs Thursday at 9:00 am at Utah Valley University.
MAGNA, Utah-The No. 12 Cyprus Pirates gashed No. 21 Kearns 3-1 in the first round of the 5A state playoffs Tuesday at Cyprus High School. The Pirates downed the Cougars 25-22, 21-25, 25-20, 25-15. The Pirates next face No. 5 Salem Hills Thursday at 9:00 am in the second round of the state playoffs at Utah Valley University.
CLEARFIELD, Utah-The No. 18 East Leopards upset No. 15 Clearfield 3-1 in the first round of the 5A state playoffs Tuesday at Clearfield High School. The Leopards humbled the Falcons 25-18, 25-19, 19-25, 26-24. East next faces No. 2 Bountiful Thursday at 10:30 am at Utah Valley University in the second round of the state playoffs.
PROVO, Utah-The No. 10 Timpview Thunderbirds stonewalled No. 23 Granger 3-0 Tuesday at Timpview High School in the first round of the 5A state playoffs. The Thunderbirds prevailed 28-15, 25-13, 25-11 to down the Lancers in straight sets. Timpview next faces No. 7 Skyline Thursday at 10:30 am in the second round of the state playoffs at Utah Valley University.
SANDY, Utah-The No. 14 Alta Hawks dismantled No. 19 Spanish Fork 3-1 at Alta High School Tuesday in the first round of the 5A state playoffs. The Hawks bested the Dons 25-23, 19-25, 25-22, 25-22. The Hawks next draw No. 3 Hunter Thursday at 10:30 am at Utah Valley University in the second round of the state playoffs.
LAYTON, Utah-The No. 11 Northridge Knights overpowered No. 22 Roy 3-0 in the first round of the 5A state playoffs Tuesday. The Knights overpowered the Royals 25-12, 25-20, 25-20 to achieve the straight sets victory. Northridge next meets No. 6 West Jordan Thursday at 10:30 am in the second round of the state playoffs at Utah Valley University.
