5A Playoffs First Round
HEBER CITY, Utah-Mack Ellison threw a pair of touchdown passes and the No. 17 Orem Tigers ended No. 16 Wasatch’s season with a 48-24 rout of the Wasps Friday in the first round of the 1A state playoffs at Wright-Tree Stadium. Calder Osborne and Carter Bucad ran for touchdowns and Addie Holmes returned an interception 65 yards for another score in the loss for Wasatch. Austin Southam also made a 40-yard field goal in defeat for the Wasps. This ends the career of Wasatch head coach Steve Coburn who announced his retirement at the end of the season earlier this month. WOODS CROSS, Utah-Isaac Johnson ran for a pair of scores and the No. 9 Woods Cross Wildcats hammered No. 24 Taylorsville 52-13 Friday in the first round of the 5A state playoffs. Cole Kramer ran for two touchdowns in the loss for the Warriors. The Wildcats next visit No. 8 Brighton Friday at 6:00 pm in the second round of the state playoffs.
SPANISH FORK, Utah-Banks Jackson tossed a pair of touchdown passes and the No. 13 Maple Mountain Golden Eagles pounded No. 20 Viewmont 35-13 in the first round of the 5A state playoffs Friday. Daren Tovey and Carson Tovey each threw a touchdown pass in the loss for the Vikings. The Golden Eagles next visit No. 4 Box Elder in the second round of the state playoffs Friday at 6:00 pm.
WEST JORDAN, Utah-Kyle Curtis tossed a touchdown pass and ran for another score as the No. 12 West Jordan Jaguars downed No. 21 Northridge 21-12 Friday in the first round of the 5A state playoffs. Braxton Barber threw a 5-yard touchdown pass to Jaxson Harris in the loss for the Knights. West Jordan next visits No. 5 Olympus Friday at 6:00 pm in the second round of the state playoffs.
KEARNS, Utah-Michael Nunu Fonua ran for a pair of scores and the No. 18 East Leopards upset No. 15 Kearns 33-21 in the first round of the 5A state playoffs Friday. Teki Finau ran for a pair of scores and threw a touchdown pass in defeat for the Cougars. The Leopards next visit No. 2 Springville in the second round of the state playoffs Friday at 6:00 pm.
BOUNTIFUL, Utah-Siaki Fekitoa threw three touchdown passes and the No. 10 Bountiful Redhawks decimated No. 23 Cedar Valley 51-7 Friday in the first round of the 5A state playoffs. Chevas Gregory had a 9-yard touchdown run in the loss for the Aviators. Bountiful next visits No. 7 Granger Friday at 6:00 pm in the second round of the state playoffs.
WASHINGTON TERRACE, Utah-Paden Toula threw three touchdown passes and the No. 14 Bonneville Lakers edged No. 19 Hunter 24-21 in the first round of the 5A state playoffs Friday. Uluaki Taukiuvea ran for a touchdown and tossed for another score in defeat for the Wolverines. The Lakers next visit No. 3 Roy Friday at 6:00 pm in the second round of the state playoffs.
SANDY, Utah-Matt McKea, Anthony Cottis and Nolan Lohness each had touchdown runs and the No. 11 Alta Hawks routed No. 22 Highland 34-10 Friday in the first round of the 5A state playoffs. Manasa Pela threw a 14-yard touchdown pass in defeat for the Rams. Alta next visits No. 6 West Friday at 6:00 pm in the second round of the state playoffs.

5A State Championship @ America First Field
SANDY, Utah-Kesley Jewkes scored and the No. 10 Maple Mountain Golden Eagles outlasted No. 5 Bountiful 4-2 on penalty kicks to win the 5A state championship in girls soccer Friday at America First Field. Belle Sorensen scored in the loss for the Redhawks. The Golden Eagles achieved their second all-time state title in girls soccer Friday. Maple Mountain has won state championships in 2017 and 2023.
