Popular Zion National Park Hiking Trail Open Again

(Zion National Park, UT) — The Narrows is open again but the popular hiking trail in Zion National Park is no walk in the park. The Virgin River is flowing “high, fast, and cold,” according to park spokesman Jonathan Shafer. The Narrows was closed to hikers for more than two months from early April to mid-June because snowmelt had the river running dangerously high and fast. Park officials say hiking the Narrows can be “challenging” with frequent crossings where the water is up to mid-thigh depth and chest deep pools with water flowing at 70 cubic feet per second.
