CHARLESTON, S.C.-Saturday, the grand opening for the International African-American Museum occurred at Charleston, S.C. The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints was heavily involved in the process.
The museum, built on Gadsden’s Wharf, where 100,000 Africans first touched American soil, officially opens to the public June 27.
The museum features a Family History Center of the Salt Lake City-based faith, which is supported by Church organization FamilySearch.
The Church donated $2 million to assist in the construction of the center in 2019.
As of August, museum visitors can access one-on-one consultations with family history specialists to learn more about their ancestors.
