SALT LAKE CITY-Per a Tuesday interview, Utah Jazz owner Ryan Smith stated fans of the franchise in the Salt Lake City television market can watch the games on free over-the-air television next season.
Appearing as a guest on the 32 Thoughts Podcast produced by Canadian broadcaster Sportsnet, Smith discussed the potential for the Beehive State to welcome an NHL team as well as the Jazz’s expiring television contract with AT&T SportsNet.
Smith bemoaned the fact that the Jazz is only producing games to 40 percent of the Salt Lake City market presently during his remarks.
Smith then declared “if you’ve got rabbit ears on your television, you’re going to be able to watch the games.”
While on the podcast, Smith did not reveal which Salt Lake City broadcaster will be carrying the Jazz games on television.
This comes on the heels of comments from NBA commissioner Adam Silver during All-Star week at Salt Lake City in February in which he advised NBA teams to prepare for local broadcasts in their home markets to change because of the failure of regional sports networks.
AT&T SportsNet has been the Jazz’s television broadcaster since 2009.
