On May 29, Garfield County Sheriff’s Office received a report that human remains had been discovered in the Mount Dutton area near Dry Hallow. Upon arrival, first responders discovered the body of an adult male in a state of decomposition after succumbing to the elements. After an autopsy comparing dental records provided by Mapleton Police Department, it was determined the remains where that of Austin Madsen, who was reported missing in January of this year. Personnel from Garfield, Piute, Sevier and Iron counties conducted an extensive search and rescue operation until all leads had become exhausted in February. A medical examiner determined the death was that of natural causes.
