(Salt Lake City, UT) – Lawyers for the Mormon Church plan to oppose a new subpoena seeking testimony from church President Thomas S. Monson. The church is being sued by members of the Navajo tribe who claim they were abused in a relocation program run during the ’60s and ’70s. The subpoena calls for Monson to give a deposition early next week. The attorneys handling the case say they have a right to ask Monson what he knows about the program and the alleged abuse.Â
