(Salt Lake City, UT) — A new presidential order limiting the entry of refugees from several countries is generating protests in Salt Lake City. Several hundred people joined a sit-in at the city’s international airport on Saturday. The protest mirrored others held around the country following President Trump’s executive order on Friday. Another event yesterday at Salt Lake City Hall drew about 150 people protesting the executive order. Governor Gary Herbert says he supports the idea behind President Trump’s refugee ban. The governor said Friday that the President’s executive order is designed to protect the U.S. from terrorists, which is an idea he thinks everyone supports. Herbert said Friday that religion alone should not determine who can enter the U.S. But he does believe that we should know if a refugee is a threat before letting them into the country.
