SALT LAKE CITY (AP) — Catholic Community Services of Utah says refugee families whose arrivals had been put on hold are now set to arrive this month after a federal judge halted President Donald Trump’s executive order temporarily banning refugees.
Aden Batar, the agency’s director of immigration and refugee resettlement, said his office received word Monday that the flights for about 30 refugees are now being rescheduled.
The group includes the husband of Somali refugee Nimo Hashi, who was devastated to learn last week her husband’s arrival had been canceled. He has never met their 2-year-old daughter. Batar says he is now scheduled to arrive later this week.
Officials with Utah’s other refugee resettlement organization, International Rescue Committee, weren’t immediately available for comment.
The flights of some 68 refugees headed to Utah had been cancelled after Trump’s executive order temporarily banning refugees.
