Bob Schieffer To Speak at SUU Commencement

CEDAR CITY, Utah (AP)-Per a news release that came out Monday, Southern Utah University announces Emmy-Award winning political commentator Bob Schieffer will speak at commencement this spring.

Schieffer’s address will be given April 28 during commencement exercises.

Schieffer, who will turn 80 on February 25, has been with CBS News since 1969 and covered the White House, Pentagon, United States Department of State and United States Congress.

Additionally, he was the anchor of CBS Evening News Saturday edition from 1976-1996 and served as the moderator on the Sunday morning program Face The Nation from 1991-May 31, 2015.

Schieffer, the recipient of eight Emmy awards, has earned nearly every award broadcasters are eligible for and has been named a Living Legend by the Library of Congress.

The impetus of Schieffer coming to SUU was political science department chair Doug Bennett, a friend of Schieffer’s while university president Scott L. Wyatt says the choice was inspired by the 2016 election.

Wyatt says the university is “extremely grateful” to have “America’s favorite Washington correspondent” address the graduates.

The general commencement ceremony will occur in the Centrum Arena.
