RICHFIELD, Utah (AP)-Acey Orton stepped up with 21 points and 8 rebounds on 6-12 shooting and the Pangutich Bobcats shellacked Bryce Valley 63-48 to advance to the 1-A state championship game Friday in the 1-A state semifinals at the Sevier Valley Center. Panguitch put the game away with an 18-5 run in the 3rd Quarter to which the Mustangs could not respond. In defeat, Austyn Brinkerhoff had 20 points and 8 rebounds for the Mustangs. Bryce Valley will play for third place Saturday at 3:00 pm and Panguitch’s appearance in the state championship game is 5:00 pm. Both of these games can be heard on Classy FM-KMGR.
RICHFIELD, Utah (AP)-Garrett Spencer hit a clutch 3-pointer in overtime and nailed a pair of clutch free throws as the Valley Buffaloes bested Rich 71-65 Friday in the nightcap of the 1-A state semifinals at the Sevier Valley Center. Cameron Franklin netted 14 points and 7 rebounds for the Buffaloes to aid the cause. Nick Jarman had 19 points and 13 rebounds for the Rebels in the loss. The Buffaloes will play fellow Region 20 foe Panguitch for the 1-A state championship. This game can be heard on Classy FM KMGR at 5:00 pm Saturday afternoon.
RICHFIELD, Utah (AP)-Dal Nelson amassed 20 points and nine rebounds with Zane Taylor posting 17 points and 10 boards as the Wayne Badgers overpowered Tintic 71-62 Friday in overtime at the Sevier Valley Center. The Badgers were down 48-40 with just over three minutes left in the 4th Quarter before exploding for 31 points in the remainder of the quarter as well as the extra session. In defeat, the Miners were paced by Braxten Petersen who had 20 points and 8 rebounds for Tintic while David Whitney added 19 more points in the loss. Wayne will play for fifth place Saturday at 1:30 pm. This game can be heard on Classy FM-KMGR.
RICHFIELD, Utah (AP)-Ryan Westwood netted 28 points on 10-13 shooting and 7-8 at the foul line as the Piute Thunderbirds overpowered Duchesne 49-41 Friday in the 1-A state tournament consolation bracket at the Sevier Valley Center. Chad Lewis posted 14 points in the loss for the Eagles, who played their final basketball game as a 1-A school. Piute next plays Saturday at 12:00 pm in the consolation bracket championship game at the Sevier Valley Center. The Thunderbirds also limited Duchesne to 29.3 percent shooting on the afternoon.
RICHFIELD, Utah (AP)-Jarrin Church and Trevor Bassett had 13 points apiece and the Parowan Rams edged Monticello 48-43 Friday in the consolation bracket at the 1-A state tournament. Jake Freestone’s 14 points paced the Buckaroos in the loss. Parowan next draws Piute Saturday at 12:00 pm for the consolation bracket championship game at the Sevier Valley Center. RICHFIELD, Utah (AP)-Alessandro Guzzom had 26 points and the Merit Knights upset fellow Region 18 foe St. Joseph 72-54 to live to play another day at the Sevier Valley Center in the 1-A consolation bracket Friday. Masen White had 17 points for the Jayhawks in the loss. Merit faces Wayne Saturday at 1:30 pm in the battle for fifth place. This game can be heard on Classy FM-KMGR.
