HURRICANE, Utah (AP)-Kapri Orton of Panguitch placed first in the girls’ high jump at the Hurricane Invitational to give the Bobcats a good showing in the prestigious southern Utah track and field competition Saturday.

Orton had a leap of 5-02 in the event while Panguitch placed ninth overall in the event.

The Cedar Lady Reds had 133.5 points overall to place first for the girls while Wasatch’s Abby West won the girls’ 1600-meter and 3200-meter runs to complete the sweep of the long-distance races.

The Wasatch girls also won the medley relay as Hurricane’s Kelbie Dayley won the girls’ discus crown.

Dixie’s Starlee Woodbury won the 100-meter hurdles crown while her teammate, Elizabeth Durant, placed first in the 300-meter hurdles.

Enterprise’s Jaslyn Gardner ensued in her magnificence as well, sweeping the 100 and 200-meter runs as well as the long jump title.

Beaver’s Linley White won the girls’ javelin title with a toss of 120 feet with Ella Burrows of Dixie placing first in the girls’ shot put.

Finally, the Cedar Lady Reds cemented their team title with a convincing victory in the girls’ 4 x 400 relay, traditionally the last event at a high school or collegiate track meet.

The boys’ champion was the Hurricane Tigers, amassing 137.5 points on their home track while among Mid-Utah Radio schools, Panguitch’s boys placed the highest, finishing fifth with 39 points. This was because Bobcats star athlete Trey Barney was his usual magnificent self, winning the boys’ javelin crown with a toss of 165-04 feet.

Hurricane’s Caleb Armstrong won the boys’ 1600-meter run and placed second in the 3200-meter run with Cedar’s Jensen Lambert placing first in the longer of the races. Armstrong also won the 800-meter run championship.

Hurricane’s boys also won the medley relay with Cedar’s boys winning the 4 x 100 and 4 x 400 relays, helping the Redmen place second behind Hurricane in the team standings.

Pine View’s Dillan Robertson won the shot put championship while Bennet Hill of Wasatch won the boys’ 110-meter hurdles with Cedar’s Dylan Clements placing first in the 300-meter hurdles on the afternoon.

Keivontae Washington of Snow Canyon swept the 100 and 200-meter dashes while Canyon View’s Seth Dabb won the 400-meter dash and high jump championships, just as he did at Pine View last Saturday.

Robert Campbell of Hurricane won the boys’ discus championship as well, closing out individual winners at the meet.
