Man Charged With Murdering Father in Duchesne Extradited to Utah

DUCHESNE, Utah (AP)-Per a report on KSL.com, a man accused of killing his father in Duchesne and subsequently fleeing to Grand Junction, Colo., has been returned to the Beehive State.

Colorado prosecutors dropped 22 charges against 34-year-old James Main Jr. last week and as of Monday morning, it was expected he would face an initial appearance in 8th District Court.

He is charged with aggravated murder, a capital offense in Utah, in the death of his father, 56-year-old James Main Sr.

Authorities stated that last October 28, Main Sr. said his son had stolen his .357 Stoeger revolver in unincorporated Duchesne County and slid into a mountainous area nearby.

Main Sr. told authorities his son was “acting crazy, spraying him with a fire extinguisher and threatened to stab his truck tire.”

October 29, Roosevelt Police responded to gunshots at 325 N. Bonnie Drive where officers were informed Main Jr. had abducted a man and woman at gunpoint from their home and forced them to drive him in their car to that location.

The man and the woman broke free after a physical confrontation with the man, per the affidavit and a resident at the home managed to wrest the revolver away from Main’s possession.

The affidavit goes on to say Main Jr. was bragging to the man who obtained the revolver that he had shot his father.

A subsequent man hunt saw Main Jr. arrested in Grand Junction October 30 and he now faces a litany of charges in Utah.

Among them are firearm offenses, including possession of a dangerous weapon by a restricted person, a second-degree felony.

Additionally, he faces charges of a felony discharge of a firearm, a third-degree felony, and having a loaded firearm in a vehicle or prohibited area, a Class B misdemeanor.

He also faces two Class B misdemeanor assault counts.
