June 16, 2017 - Moreno Valley, California, United States: Federal agents detained many people after serving arrest and search warrants at home being operated as a rehab center, early today in Moreno Valley targeting a biker gang suspected of drug trafficking as well as the 2011 murder of a leader of a rival gang. The Federal agents launched a sweeping operation against the Vagos biker gang and in a dozen cities throughout California, Nevada and Hawaii on Friday. A grand jury indictment that was unsealed after the coordinated, early morning raids leveled charges against 23 people and accused them of playing various roles in the Vagos Outlaw Motorcycle Gang. Prosecutors alleged in the indictment that the gang is a “highly organized criminal organization” and charged the targeted members with carrying out such serious crimes as murder, kidnapping, assault and drug possession. According to the indictment and court filings from earlier prosecutions, the Vagos gang was started in the late 1960s in California and has evolved into one of the largest biker gangs in the western U.S. with nearly 600 members in 24 chapters.
