Track Roundup: 4/21

NEPHI, Utah (AP)-The Salem Hills boys and girls’ track teams swept the team titles Friday at the Juab Invitational, although many strong showings came from athletes in the Mid-Utah Radio Sports Network coverage area.

Alison Pray of Salem Hills gave the Skyhawks some key points by winning the girls’ 3200-meter run, while Sadie Sargent of North Summit took the girls’ 800-meter run title. In the 1600, SeOnna Southwick of Richfield took the title in a time of 5:28.51.

Stephanie Tervort of American Leadership took the 100 and 300-meter hurdle titles while Ashlin Blonquist of North Summit (who will compete for Weber State next season) swept the 100 and 200-meter titles as well as the discus title. Shandi Bastian of Richfield placed first in the girls’ 400-meter dash, posting a time of 59.13 seconds. Bastian also took the high jump title with a leap of 5 feet 3 inches.

Bastian’s teammate, Passion Reitz, won the girls’ long jump title with a leap of 16-10.75 feet.

Winning the girls’ javelin was Carbon’s Caitlyn Dimick, and Salem Hills’ Miley Houghton won the shot put.

Juab’s girls won the medley on their home track while North Summit’s girls won the 4 x 100 and Salem Hills cemented their meet title with a win in the 4 x 400.

For the boys, Springville’s Devin Pancake and Carter Paxton swept the 3200 and 1600-run titles while Spencer VanAusdal of Salem Hills took the 800-meter run crown.

North Summit’s Eisley Scholes is emerging as the Braves’ newest star, sweeping both the 110 and 300-meter hurdles titles.

Dallin Draper of Delta won the 100-meter dash title, while Tristen Woolstenhulme of North Summit won the 400-meter dash crown and Springville’s Brennen Rymer won the 200-meter dash title.

Carbon’s Derek Hilliam won the long jump title while Aaron Clark of Juab won the high jump title at a leap of 6-06, as well as the javelin with a toss of 159-06 feet.

Talin Mortensen of Salem Hills won the boys’ shot put and discus crowns to conclude the throwing events.

In the relay events, the Springville Red Devils amassed the triple crown, sweeping the medley, 4 x 100 and 4 x 400 relays.

ST. GEORGE, Utah (AP)-Friday, Dixie High School hosted the Dixie Invitational, which will continue with the glut of its championship events Saturday.

Thus far, championships have been determined in both the boys and girls’ 1600-meter runs.

The girls’ champion was Cedar’s Mic Webster in a time of 5:11.69 while Garrett Barton of Ogden won the boys’ 1600-meter run in a time of 4:18.49.
