Wasatch High Track & Field Completes Pine View Invitational

ST. GEORGE, Utah-Saturday, Wasatch High Schools’ boys and girls track & field squads completed their competition at the Pine View Invitational with some strong performances as the weather was markedly improved from Friday.

The Wasatch girls finished 20th with 9 points, while Desert Hills’ girls took the team title, posting 104 points.

Symmetrically, the Wasatch boys also finished 20th, posting 8 points. They were tied for 20th with White Pine of Ely, Nev.

Abby Randall placed 20th (11:49.88) in the girls’ 3200-meter run. Hailey Ellis finished 34th (12:21.53) in the event.

The girls’ 4 x 100 squad placed 12th (54.11 seconds). This team consisted of Callie Griffith, Makayla Bastos, Lucy Clawson and Karissa Bingham.

Sydney Hales had perhaps the Wasps’ best individual performance of the meet as she finished sixth (1:00.97) in the girls’ 400-meter dash.

Madelyn King finished 36th overall (2:35.30) in the girls’ 800-meter run while Lotte Pensky finished 39th (2:35.55). Anna Baird (2:38.05) finished 49th and Savannah Dorrough (2:42.41) placed 63rd.

The Wasatch girls’ medley relay team placed 10th overall (4:41.47). This team featured Miranda Ross, Brooke Sargent, Callie Griffith and Abby Randall.

The Wasastch girls’ 4 x 400 relay squad did even better, placing 7th overall (4:19.57). This team consists of Miranda Ross, Makayla Bastos, Brooke Sargent and Sydney Hales.

In the girls’ high jump, Alisha Maxwell placed 16th (4 feet-8 inches) and Lexi Vernsey placed 48th overall (4 feet-4 inches).

For the boys, Bentley Ackerson placed 48th overall (10:28.95) in the 3200-meter run. Jake Giles checked in, finishing in 75th place (11:11.17).

The boys’ 4 x 100 team placed 12th overall (46.63 seconds). This team features Samuel Lemon, Seth Saxton, Peter Meuzelaar and Hayden Stocking.

The top achiever for the boys was Kellin Olsen who placed seventh (2:01.67) in the 800-meter run. Mack Hinckley (2:08.77) finished 34th overall in the event. Brayden Guymon (2:10.71) placed 40th overall and Luke Straddeck (2:24.55) finished 77th overall.

The Wasatch boys finished sixth overall (3:37.49) in the 4 x 400 relay. The Wasps excelled in this event behind the talents of Matt Johnston, Mack Hinckley, Bentley Ackerson and Kellin Olsen.

In the boys’ high jump, Samuel Lemon placed 20th overall (5 feet-6 inches) to conclude the Wasps’ participation at the meet.
